The group Kormorán from Hungary was founded in 1976 by Gergely Koltay. The musical style is described as folkrock. The music is based on traditional folk motifs from Middle- and Southeast Europe and is played with all the intensyty that a lively rocktune needs. In this way they create a unique blend of modern electric music with the classical sound of ancient folk instruments. Part of the lyrics are classical and modern Hungarian poems; the other part tells about the problems and attitude to life today and has been written by Gergely Koltay. Kormorán has toured Europe extensively, playing bot hat rock - and folkfestivals and givin concerts int he clubs.
The name Kormorán is Hungarian for the bird cormorant.
